Michail Bakiris has more than 12 years of work experience in sports and tourism marketing management. He has been the Marketing Director of the Hellenic Basketball Clubs Association (HEBA) in Greece since 2010. Basketball is extremely popular in Greece as National Teams and Greek Clubs have won more than 14 European Championships over the last years (4 Euroleague titles the last 5 years, including 2013).

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from Panteion University and a Masters in Business Administration in Marketing from Northeastern University U.S.A. Michail’s involvement in Sports began in 1989 as an athlete in Kolossos Basketball Club.

Michail has organized and currently supervises the Marketing Department of the professional A1 Greek Basketball League. In this role, he has grouped the TV rights of 12 clubs and signed a contract with ERT SA and NOVA Sports cable network. Negotiated, signed and executed a 3-year sponsorship contract with OPAP SA, the leading betting company in Greece. Coordinated sponsorship programs of 14 clubs, including 2011 European Champion Panathinaikos BC, and 2012 & 2013 Euroleague Champion Olympiacos BC. Organized the 19th, 20th and the 21st All Star Game in Ancient Olympia, Patras and Crete respectively. Developed a new CSR program for the League, partnering with International Olympic Truce Organization, Greek Orthodox Church and UNICEF. Initiated a unique ticketing program that lead to a 45% increase in sales in 2012-2013 season. Launched the Greek League’s Official Merchandise online shop and new website, increasing page hits by 150%.

Prior to his current position, Michail was involved in Tourism in his hometown Rhodes, one of the most popular Greek Islands. Michail worked as a Hotel & Tourism Marketing Visiting Lecturer with A.S.T.E.R. Public College of Tourism Management. In the same time, he was a consultant on projects and companies based in Rhodes such as Kolossos Basketball Club (participates in the professional A1 Greek National League), ATP AEGEAN TENNIS CUP – CHALLENGER TOUR (for which he developed the Sponsorship, Merchandizing & Ticketing programs), VAP KOUGIOS AVEE  – PEPSICO  (one of the biggest producers and distributors of soft drinks and alcohol spirits in Eastern Mediterranean area) and EMERY WINES S.A. (one of the biggest national producers and distributors of wines and alcohol spirits).

Michail began his marketing management career in 2001 with Johnson & Johnson in the department of consumer products where he supported the worldwide pilot introduction of the New Kids product line, he analyzed IRI and AC Nielsen data, executed research studies regarding the acceptance of the new products by consumers, and he designed displays, launching events and advertising campaigns. In 2003, he worked in Customer Marketing Department of Neutrogena Corporation in Los Angeles California handling ROI, CRM, FSIs and circulars in order to adapt the corporate strategy to CVS and Target accounts.
